Political parties in power can compromise the integrity of public institutions (i.e. undermine their neutrality or manipulate them for their purposes) by engaging in gerrymandering (drawing electoral district lines to isolate/spread out specific demographics), stacking courts with justices from their party, manipulating voter eligibility (e.g. whether felons can vote or not), etc.
